Vishwas claims ELITE Title; Adith, Shabdik honoured

Vishwas Saralaya of MGM, Udupi took the limelight by lifting 'Elite Club' Trophy in Rapid Chess Challenge organised by Derik's Chess School, Mangalore. He scored 4.5 points in 5 rounds in Elite group participated by many FIDE rated players and strong senior and junior players. Prakash Rao of Canara College scored 3.5 points and was placed second on his better progressive points over Nihal Manjunath of Lourdes Central School who had to content for 3rd place.

Prizes to the winners were distributed by Sri.M Maheshwara Rao, Deputy Commissioner, D.K; Sri. B.Dayanada, Superintendent of Police, D.K; Sri Ganesh Rao, Chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges; chess promoter Srinivas Nayak Indaje ; Sister Leena Rodrigues, Headmistress, Lourdes High School.
Deric Pinto and Prasanna Rao, Administrators, DCS; Guruprasad K, DCS Cordinator were also present on the dais.

On the occassion, Gold Medalist in World School Chess Championship Adith Jagadish and Shabdik Varma who recently was a joint winner in Under 10 in Sangli Chess Festival were honored by the eminent guests.
Speaking on the occassion, Sri.M Maheshwara Rao, Deputy Commissioner congratulated the players and also wished that pool of Grand Masters shall emerge in future from DCS.

Sri Dayananda, SP opined that the game of Chess has lots of potential in D.K coastal belt as this place is rich in intellect.

Sri Ganesh Rao stressed the need of chess education for children which will help them to excel in their academic studies.

Special introductory free training program:

DCS will organize 5 day special introductory free training sessions for the children as part of the Project 2007- ' chess for kids' from 28th January to 1st February 2007 at its premises. The main objective of the program is to kindle interest in chess among kids.

Eligibility: 1. For children between 5 to 7 year age.
2. Only for children from Mangalore city.

Vishwas Saralaya tops State Level Pre University Chess

Vishwas Saralaya of MGM, Udupi has won the State Level Pre University Chess Championship organised Govt Girls junior College, Basavanagudi, Bangalore held on 11th November 2006.

He gathered unbeaten 6.5 points in 7 rounds to claim the title. Koushik R of sharada Vidyalaya, mangalore scored 5.5 points and was placed 5th to make it the Karnataka Team.

Soumyashree C Ail of Canara P U College, mangalore scored 5 points in 6 rounds and stood runner up in Girls section.

Vishwas, Koushik and Soumyashree are among the players sellected to reprersent Karnataka in National level Championship to be held at Tirupati.

Anantharam steals limelight

7 year old chess prodigy Anantharam R U of Sharada Vidyalaya has won the State Under 7 Chess Championship with a cakewalk of 6 points in as many rounds, in the State Under 7 and Under 9 Boys and Girls Chess Championship held at State Youth Centre, Bangalore from 29th September to 1st October 2006.

He proved too strong for his category as he claimed the title with a round to spare. Our District has retained this title for the second consecutive year as the last year's winner was Shabdik Varma of SDM Ujire.

In Under 7 Girls category, Ankitha R of Sharada Vidyalaya scored 4 points in 5 rounds to claim Runner Up.

In Under 9 Girls Category, Shalon J Pais of St. Agnes Engish Primary scored 4 points in 5 rounds and was placed Runner Up.

All the above 3 have qualified to represent the State in the upcoming National Championships during November.
