DCS students dominates State Inter School Level Chess Championship

A chess enthusiast visiting "State Selection trials in Chess organised by Karnataka Public Education Department in Nippani (also known as Nipani, Belgaum) from 22nd to 24th October 2008" would have found that the event was evidently dominated by the students from Derik's Chess School.

Among the 4 titles, 3 titles were bagged by either DCS Students or formerly DCS trained players. Out of the 20 qualifying berths 11 berths have been clinched by Dakshina kannada players.


In Under 14 Girls DCS Chess prodigy Vanessa D'souza of St. Agnes Eng High School, Mangalore won the title comfortably scoring 8 points in 9 rounds with unbeaten performance. She won 7 rounds and drew against her sister Andrea D'souza and Chrisel Pais. Andrea D'souza of St agnes Eng Primary School and Chrisel Pais of Ladyhill Eng Primary School were tied for 2nd place and were placed 2nd and 3rd respectively after the tiebreaker. 4th place was won by Shalon pais of St Agnes Eng Primary School.

In Under 17 Girls, although the title was bagged by Pavithra Jagthap of Bangalore, all other qualifying berths were bagged by D.K players. Riola D'souza of SVS Vidyagiri, bantwal secured Runner Up. Bhargavi Alva of St. Agnes High School won the third place. Pooja Shekhar and Raksha K of Canara Girls High School won 4th and 5th place respectively.

In Under 14 boys, DCS produced chess prodigy Viani D'cunha of St Aloysius High School won the title. In Under 17 boys, another DCS former student Gahan MG of Canara boys High SChool claimed title and Sumith Bhat of the same School won 5th position.
