Biggest ever State level chess event of D.K District 'State Level Children Chess Fest-2007' organised by Lourdes Central School, Mangalore in association with Derik's Chess School concluded today.Chief guest Sri Rama Murthy, General Manager, Corporation Bank distributed prizes to the winners. Rev.Fr. J P Tauro, Manager,LCS; Mrs.Grace Noronha, Principal,LCS; Prasanna Rao, Chief Arbiter; Veerendra Alva, Convener; Pratham Bhandary, President, PTEC were also present on the occasion. The overall prize for the best participating school was bagged by St.Agnes English Pry School. Sharada Vidyalaya was awarded runner up. More than 220 participants from across the State had taken part in this unique event. The festivities were sponsored by Karnataka Bank and Corporation Bank.

1st Day's Report:

Two day 'State level Children Chess Fest-2007' being organised by Lourdes Central School in association with Derik's Chess School at Auditorium, L.C.S, Mangalore witnessed record participation of more than two hundred players across the State. Players from Chitradurga, Hassan, Shimoga, Udupi, D.K and many more are taking part in this prestigious event. Good number of participation witnessed from many rural parts of the coastal belt signifying the way this game has popularised among kids.

The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Sri. M.V.C.S Karanth, D.G.M, Karnataka Bank Ltd by lighting the lamp. He also played a symbolic move which was replied by Master. Nihal Manjunath, L.C.S. Sri. K.S.Kamath, C.A; Rev.Fr.J.P Tauro; Prasanna Rao, Chief Arbiter; Mrs.Grace Noronha, Principal,L.C.S; Mrs.Vimala Moteiro, Secretary, P.T.E.C; Sri. Edward Louis, Ex.President, P.T.E.C and Sri Veerendra Alva, Convener were also present on the dais.

Rapid Chess tournament is being conducted in 10 categories.
