Koushik R wins "CHESS PARK OPEN RAPID TOURNAMENT"



In form Kaushik R of Canara College has won the "Chess Park Open Rapid Chess Tournament" organised by Chess Association, Dakshina Kannada and Derik's Chess School under the auspices of Dakshina Kannada District Administration at Tagore Park, Mangalore on 25th November 2007. FIDE rated Kaushik R defeated top seeded Adith Jagadish in the final round to take his tally to 6 points in as many rounds to clinch the title. Adith Jagadish of Lourdes Central School had to be content for the 2nd place with 5 points. Rammohan Bhandary (LCS), Vanessa Dsouza (St Agnes) and Sharath Gore (ujire) were placed 3rd to 5th positions respectively with 5 points each.

Under 15- 1st Place- Nihal Manjunath ( L.C.S)- 5 pts

2nd Place-Yashas Salian ( L.C.S)- 4.5 pts

3rd Place- Akash H ( L.C.S)- 4 pts

Under 11- 1st Place-Shabdik varma (SDM, Ujire)- 4 pts

2nd Place-Pangal Gopalkrishna Nayak ( Canara)- 4pts
3rd Place- Adithya Pai (St Theresa)- 4 pts

Girls: 1st Place-Chrisel Pais (Ladyhill Eng Pry)- 4 pts

2nd Place-Andrea Dsouza(St Agnes)-3 pts

3rd Place- Annette Dsouza(St Agnes)-3 pts


Earlier, the event was inaugurated by Sri Krishna Palemar, M.L.A, Suarathkal by playing symbolic moves with State Under 7 Champion Master Sharan Rao. In his inaugural address he insisted to make chess more popular among kids as it helps their personality development. Sri walter Pereira, Chief Engineer, General Maritime Management (Portugal) LDA, Smt. Shantha R, Corporator, Panjimogaru, Sri Deric Pinto, Administrator, DCS were also present on the occasion.
The board games were played by the players in the natural surroundings of the park. The event was made spectators friendly which enabled the park visiting public to enjoy this royal game. Players opined that playing in nature's open air atmosphere helped them to enjoy and play without much tournament pressure unlike Tournaments in closed ambiance. Prizes were distributed by Sri Moideen Bava, President, D.K Congress Minority Division and Sri Akbar Ali, Vice President, Beary Sahithya Academy. Sri Srinivas nayak Indaje, Vice President, C.A.D.K; Smt Irene Pereira, Treasurer, CADK; Sri Deric Pinto, Administrator, DCS and Prasanna Rao, General secretary, C.A.D.K were also present on the occasion. Sri Moideen Bava in his address applauded efforts of CADK in bringing young chess players to the park. He also congratulated the winners. He said the efforts like this should inspire everybody to go in for such endeavors in Parks to make parks more popular among public. Srinivas Nayak thanked the District Administration for the perpetual support.
