Asian Youth Chess: DCS Report

In Under 14 Girls, Vanessa D'souza scored a win over 2nd seeded Atabayeva Gozel of Turkmenistan. So far she has made a strong come back with 3 wins in a row.

In Under 14 Boys, Nihal manjunath lost to FM Vuong Trung Hieuof Vietnam.

Asian Youth DCS report:

In Under 14 Boys, Nihal manjunath lost his 3rd round game against Igambergenov Alibek of Kazakstan. It was surprising to see both players overlooking a mistake in the opening. Igambergenov played a blunder which would cost him a piece, Nihal just overlooked and the game went on for further middle game battle. However Nihal secured draw against Vietnam's Pham Hoai Naam in 4th round and scored a win in a miniature game against Munasinghe of Srilanka in 5th Round. In 5th Round, he played rook sacrifice which demolished all possible defences of the opponent.

In Under 14 Girls, Vanessa lost to Premnath Dinushki in 3rd Round. However she bounced back strongly by notching wins in 4th and 5th round against WCM Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Trang of Vietnam and Kahramonova Mohinur of Uzbekstan.

SKDCA detrimental to growth of chess

We had recently conducted Press Conference to share the pride moments of our chess talents being selected for "Asian Youth Chess Championship-2009" to be held in August in New Delhi. Players securing Top 3 berths in the various age group National Championships are normally selected to represent India in the Asian Youth Chess Championship. This time, since the event is in India, AICF can field one additional player as host entry. Nihal Manjunath ( 3rd place in National u-13), Manasa K (3rd place in National U-17 Girls) and Vanessa D'souza (5th place in Natioanl U-13 Girls) are the Dakshina Kannada players within the selction bracket.

It is a very proud moment for our coastal belt. Although Anantharam R U (7th place in National U-9), Viani d'cunha (9th place in National U-13), Gahan M.G (9th place in National U-15) have narrowly missed the selection, its is for the first time 3 players have come in Selection from our District.

It is at this juncture, South Kanara District Chess Association has issued press releases, stating the selection of two players merely as donor entries is misleading the media and it mirrors their hypocrisy. This step-motherly attitude of the association is poisonous for the growth of chess.

Being the official association..... they have failed to conduct events for the grass root level. SKDCA also has failed to support the needy players like Vanessa who is selected to represent India in Asian Youth. The whole organization has been functioning like a pocket organization. It is just being a bad example of how the sports organizations can turn into if few vested interested parents take over the administration.

Asian Youth Chess Rd 2- DCS Report

In Boys Under 14 Nihal Manjunath had a walk over against Vuong Trung Hieu of Vietnam. He takes up his tally to 1.5 points in 2 rounds.

In Under 14 Girls, Vanessa failed to retain initiative and lost to WFM Khademalsharieh Sarasadat of Iran. Vanessa has scored 1 point in 2 rounds.

4th August i.e tomorrow only one round is scheduled.

Asian Youth Chess- Vanessa wins, Nihal holds Sahoo

In the on going Asian Youth Chess Championship at Delhi, Vanessa D'souza of India kick started her campaign with win over Sydykova Myrzagyl of Kyrgyzstan in Under 14 girls category.

In Boys Under 14, Nihal Manjunath of India upstaged an upset by holding 2nd seeded Utkal Ranjan Sahoo for draw.

2nd Round also will be played today.
