DCS talents Nihal, Vanessa for Asian Youth Chess

DCS prodigies Nihal Manjunath and Vanessa D’souza are among the selected by the All India Chess Federation to represent India in the “Asian Youth Chess Championship 2009” being organized by All India Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation from 2nd to 9th August 2009 at New Delhi.

Nihal will take part in the Under 14 Boys category and Vanessa will participate in the Under 14 Girls category. Both of their performance in the National Under 13 Chess Championship held in 2008 at Vellore where Nihal stood 3rd and Vanessa secured 5th has won them the selection for Asian Youth.

Nihal is studying in 10th standard in Lourdes Central School and son of Dr.Manjunath and Dr. Veena Manjunath. Apart from National Bronze, he has also won Silver Medal in Asian School Chess, State Under 13 title, has led Lourdes Central School team which won National CBSE Championship and many more laurels.


Vanessa is studying in 9th standard in St Agnes Girls High School and daughter of Victor D’souza and Avith D’souza. Vanessa has also won many State Championship titles and Gold and Bronze Medals in National School Games. Her younger sister Andrea D’souza is also well known chess prodigy who has won many laurels for the institute.
