Nihal Manjunath, Lourdes Central School dominated the Premier League Chess tournament (July) organised on 1st July at DCS, Mangalore. He scored unbeaten 4.5 points in 5 rounds to clinch the title. Adith Jagadish, was placed second with 4 points. Scintillating game between the two had ended in a draw in 4th round. Kaushik R, Canara College scored 3.5 points and was placed 3rd. Andrea D'souza spurred a major upset by holding Adith for a draw. Suraj Prabhu also took the limelight with his gutsy performance by holding Kaushik for draw. Nihal ended Suraj's fine run in the final round.
In General Leagues..
In Under 15 category Vineeth Sherlekar, St Aloysius Eng Hr. Primary scored unbeaten 4.5 points to claim the title. Seema Crasta, SVS- Bantwal scored 4 points and was placed Runner Up. Shashank U, Canara High School was placed 3rd also with 4 points.
In Under 9 category Shishirdeep, MRPL School, Vivek K M, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Utkarsh Salian of Lourdes Central were tied for the first place with 4 points each to their credit. Shishirdeep was awarded winner on better tiebreak score. Vivek and Utkarsh had to be content for 2nd and 3rd respectively.
