DCS talent Vanessa D'souza has secured Runner Up place in the State Women Chess Championship 2009 held in Bangalore organised by United Karnataka Chess Association from 28th to 30th August 2009.
She scored 4 points in 5 round with 13 tiebreak points which placed her in second position ahead of Rekha Sagar who also scored 4 points. Rekha and defending champion and another Mangalore talent Manasa had to be content for 3rd and 4th place respectively. K Shruthi of Shimoga bagged title. Another DCS prodigy Andrea D'souza secured 5th position and narrowly missed the national berth.
Vanessa will represent Karnataka in the Upcoming National Challengers Womens Championship to be held in Nagpur from September 7th to 15th, 2009.

its nice to see new faces in chess.last year it was manasa who was leading in woman section , now its vanessa.whenever there is change it means progress. hats off to u people u have given chess a new defination
